Maternity Rights

Maternity Leave and rights are often an uncertain time for expectant mothers however with most wanting to return to work after their maternity leave we have provided some advice that many new mums are not aware of:

If you’re pregnant you can take Statutory Maternity Leave no matter how long you’ve been in your job, what you’re paid, or the hours you work, but you must provide the correct notice.

If you’re dismissed whilst pregnant or on maternity leave then you are automatically entitled to written reasons for dismissal, without having to ask and with no qualifying period.

Your employer should keep you informed of anything happening at work that could affect you, this can include things such as opportunities for promotion or job vacancies.

If you’re expecting a baby or having a child placed with you for adoption, you can share your maternity leave and pay with your partner as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

Please contact us if you wish to discuss your maternity rights in more detail.
